Another winter, another magical snow shoot...

It took me a full twelve months to get around to posting the snow shots I got on Mount Macedon last Winter (see Blog Post #1). I was so happy with those shots, I'd determined that if I were never to get another chance, I'd be more than happy with what I already had. But then, five days after I wrote that post and launched this website, a very intense cold front swept through Victoria, and I got the chance to do it all over again.

I've just finished editing the photos. And if I was happy before, I have to say, I am ten times more so now. This time I took a bunch of Lensbaby optics with me, and grabbed the Velvet 56 almost as an afterthought. But as it turns out, I ended up shooting with that lens and nothing else. I have to admit, I've owned the Velvet 56 for just over 3 years now, and it's never been the one I first reach for when I am shooting Lensbaby. That honour usually goes to the Edge 80 or Edge 50. But after editing these images, I'm really glad I used this lens this time. I've ended up with a very different result to the series I did last Winter, when I used a wide angle, and the Edge 50.

Whiteout...

At one point, about midmorning, the sky cleared and the sun shone, and I expected the snow to begin melting. But then, after I'd been there for quite some time, the sky darkened, the snow began to fall, quite heavily, and the winds rose, and everything turned an ethereal shade of milky white. And all that was visible, quickly disappeared in a beautiful, soft white haze.

I could not possibly love this place any more than I do. It is, without question, my spiritual home. Nowhere else, do I feel nearly as connected as I do when I am here. And possibly never more so than on days like this...

Some of my favourite images from this shoot can be seen HERE.
